Wonderland natural geothermal in Tinggiraja National Park, located in Negeri Dolok Village, Dolok Masihoul District, Tebing Tinggi, North Sumatera, about 3 hours from Medan. Why this is only for adventurous ?
Absolutely it’s not a comfort journey for Tinggiraja. It saddens me to say that people and government do not pay attention so much any more for the broken roads, it has been found since District Dolok Masihoul to Negeri Dolok Village. And this condition will getting worst when we begin towards Tinggiraja forest. I recommend you ask someone Negeri Dolok's indigenous with experiences for guiding to pass hard journey into forest and geothermal hills.
As rain forest Tinggiraja offers giant pandanus, canarium, rattan, and malutua (special species with changing color every day, red in the morning, green in the noon, and white in the night), species of flora we find it along the way to geothermal area. May be you will not see someone else, and please, don’t think you will find wooden shacks in the forest. We just find a small terrain for parking before coming to hills of hot springs. Its so quite. This forest is really virgin.
During this period the center of hotsprings area always move. Sometimes it comes out on the west hill above, and east or south. So does the landscape. There are traces of combustion of the hill where the water moves from the top of the hill. But sometimes hot springs will come again on last location. At the active zone hot water flowing through under the surface, and has temperature between 200-300 degrees Celcius which makes land and stone blisters.
Wait!...it's not all. After all the fascinating landscape on three hills, we must return to the terrain of parking area and start to trace the dirt track to Balakbak river. It is below the hills and we have to descend the bank of Balakbak river.
Actually the water of Balakbak river is cold and fresh. But flowing hot water from hills above will mix with cold stream water to make warm the stream below the hills The river bank has one of the most important features phenomenon. Limestone sediment could be some unique stalactite in green, yellow, white, or brown, when it has been wetted gradually by the water. Fantastic !
Of course, with this fascinating natural and fresh warm stream, soon I took a bath and swam there. Bingo!….natural spa in the middle of forest !!..How can I get for free of charge in elsewhere ?? So, don't hesitate to come down….
